Understanding Iraq

We Americans find it difficult to accept our presence is fueling the insurgency in Iraq. It is helpful to remember that in the eyes of Iraqis and much of the world, we have a history of foreign intervention that has often been brutal and undemocratic for the countries involved. Whether Americans believe this to be true or not, what is important on the ground in Iraq is that Iraqis believe it. Furthermore, it was not that long ago when in the 1980s we supported their brutal dictator, Saddam.

What do these facts mean to our country and our troops in Iraq? It means that our credibility toward helping them solve the problem is shot.Will things get worse if we pull our troops out too soon? They may for a while, but in the long run, leaving will make the situation less bad than staying.

We should re-deploy our troops out of Iraq soon.What do you think?
